Why a referral service, and what that means for you

When a storm comes through Burlington County, dozens of homeowners start calling the same handful of numbers at once. We built this site to make that first step simpler. You describe the tree problem once, and we route it to an independent tree contractor that serves your area. They call you, look at the tree and give you their own estimate.

We are upfront about what we are: a referral service. We do not climb, cut, grind or haul. The contractor does the work under their own contract, and New Jersey requires tree care businesses to be registered with the state Board of Tree Experts and to employ a Licensed Tree Expert or Licensed Tree Care Operator. Ask to see both before work starts.

What to do first if a tree is down

  • Stay away from wires. If any part of the tree touches a power line, or a line is on the ground, keep everyone back and call your electric utility. Tree crews generally cannot work on a tree tangled in live lines until the utility makes it safe.
  • Call 911 if anyone is hurt, trapped or in danger, or if a tree has blocked a road.
  • Take photos before anything is moved, from several angles, including damage to the roof, gutters, fence or cars. Your insurer may ask for them.
  • Do not run a chainsaw on a loaded trunk. Trees that fall on structures or other trees are often under tension and can spring or roll when cut.

What affects the cost of tree removal

We do not publish prices, because only the contractor who sees the tree can quote it. These are the factors that usually move the number up or down:

  • The height, trunk diameter and species of the tree, and whether it is dead or decayed (brittle wood can mean slower, rigged removal).
  • What is under and around it: a house, a pool, a shed, a fence or overhead wires.
  • Access. Can a bucket truck or crane reach it, or does it have to be climbed and lowered by rope through a tight backyard?
  • Whether it is an emergency, after hours or during a storm surge in demand.
  • Clean-up: hauling the wood and brush, leaving logs, and whether you want the stump ground.
  • Permits, if your township requires one for that tree.

Township tree rules are tightening

Since 2023, many New Jersey towns have adopted tree removal and replacement ordinances based on a model ordinance tied to the state's stormwater (MS4) permit. In Burlington County that includes towns like Moorestown, Mount Laurel, Medford and Evesham, which now ask for permits or replacement plantings for some trees. Dead, dying and hazardous trees are usually treated differently, but each town writes its own rules. Our town pages explain what we have found for each township, and the contractor you hire should know the local process.

How it works

  1. Tell us what is going on. Call or send the short form: your town, the tree problem and how urgent it is.
  2. We pass it to a partner contractor. Your request goes to an independent contractor who serves your part of Burlington County.
  3. The contractor contacts you. They confirm details, look at the job and give you their own estimate. You decide whether to hire them.

Burlington County Tree Removal is an independent referral service, not a contractor. We do not perform tree removal or any other tree work ourselves. When you send a request, we share it with an independent partner contractor serving Burlington County, NJ, who contacts you directly. Any estimate, contract, pricing, licensing, insurance and workmanship are between you and that contractor. Please verify their credentials before you hire. More about how this works.

Common questions

Do you remove trees yourselves?

No. Burlington County Tree Removal is an independent referral service. We pass your request to an independent partner tree contractor serving your area, and that contractor does any work under their own contract.

How fast can someone come out for a fallen tree?

It depends on the contractor's schedule and how many calls they have after a storm. Mark your request as an emergency and say what the tree is touching. If a tree is on wires, call your electric utility first; if anyone is hurt or a road is blocked, call 911.

Does a tree contractor need a license in New Jersey?

Yes. Under the New Jersey Tree Experts and Tree Care Operators Licensing Act, a tree care business must be registered with the New Jersey Board of Tree Experts and employ a Licensed Tree Expert or Licensed Tree Care Operator, depending on the services offered. Ask for the NJTC registration number, the licensed person's name and number, and a certificate of insurance.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in my town?

Possibly. Several Burlington County towns, including Moorestown, Mount Laurel, Medford and Evesham, have tree removal ordinances that can require a permit and replacement trees for healthy trees above a certain size. Dead, dying or hazardous trees are often exempt or handled differently, but documentation may be required. Check our town pages and confirm with your township.
