Tree Removal FAQ

Straight answers about tree removal in Burlington County and how our referral service works.

Free referral service. A partner contractor contacts you directly.

Do you remove trees yourselves?

No. Burlington County Tree Removal is an independent referral service. We pass your request to an independent partner tree contractor serving your area, and that contractor does any work under their own contract.

How fast can someone come out for a fallen tree?

It depends on the contractor's schedule and how many calls they have after a storm. Mark your request as an emergency and say what the tree is touching. If a tree is on wires, call your electric utility first; if anyone is hurt or a road is blocked, call 911.

Does a tree contractor need a license in New Jersey?

Yes. Under the New Jersey Tree Experts and Tree Care Operators Licensing Act, a tree care business must be registered with the New Jersey Board of Tree Experts and employ a Licensed Tree Expert or Licensed Tree Care Operator, depending on the services offered. Ask for the NJTC registration number, the licensed person's name and number, and a certificate of insurance.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in my town?

Possibly. Several Burlington County towns, including Moorestown, Mount Laurel, Medford and Evesham, have tree removal ordinances that can require a permit and replacement trees for healthy trees above a certain size. Dead, dying or hazardous trees are often exempt or handled differently, but documentation may be required. Check our town pages and confirm with your township.

Who is responsible for a tree between the sidewalk and the street?

It varies by town. In Evesham, for example, the township says property owners are responsible for maintaining or removing curbside trees, and a Road Opening Permit is needed before a homeowner has one removed. Other towns handle street trees themselves. Call your public works department before cutting a street tree.

Will my homeowners insurance pay for tree removal?

It depends on your policy and what happened. Coverage often depends on whether the tree damaged a covered structure. Photograph everything before it is moved and call your insurer or agent. We cannot advise on coverage.

How much does tree removal cost?

We do not publish prices. The contractor's estimate depends on the tree's size and condition, what is near it, access for trucks or a crane, haul-away and stump grinding, and whether it is an emergency. Always get the scope and price in writing.

Should I grind the stump?

If you want to mow, plant or build in that spot, usually yes. Grinding involves digging, so NJ One Call (811) must be contacted before the work. Ask whether grinding is included in the removal estimate.

Is there any charge for sending a request?

No. Sending a request is free and you are not obligated to hire anyone. We may be paid by partner contractors for referrals.

What happens to my information?

We share your request with the partner contractor we refer it to so they can contact you. We do not sell it. See our Privacy Policy for details.
